ROLAN Manifesto for Lighting Professionals

The ROLAN Manifesto for Lighting Professionals, or ROLAN for short, has been developed by DarkSky International and other partner organisations. It is a single page statement that advocates for a more responsible approach to outdoor by setting out a series of ten principles.

Initially it encourages decision makers to question if lighting is necessary, and where it is, the manifesto promotes light to be targeted to exactly where it is needed, to be appropriately controlled, and no brighter than required.

For planners, policy makers, architects and developers, this document is useful to inform the context surrounding the lighting design over a wide range of projects from

residential to public infrastructure.
